Charlie has cat flu

Charlie is a handsome Siamese x Rex cat who was rescued from a pound. Once arriving at his new home he started squinting in his right eye. The eye was red and painful with a brownish discharge. His new owner brought him in to our clinic to be examined.

During his veterinary examination, Charlie was found to have conjunctivitis and a fever. He was also sneezing and had a mild nasal discharge. Due to his stuffy nose, poor Charlie couldn't smell his food very well and had been off his food.

Poor Albert's bathroom dilemma

Not very long ago Albert was a very sick cat. He had lost a lot of weight and would have diarrhoea and then get terribly constipated. His blood test results showed a massive increase in his liver enzymes and protein levels, and a high white cell count. It was a concern that he may have had a disease called Feline Infectious Peritonitis which is not curable.

Jimi's kidney disease and arthritis

Jimi's owner Jodie came into the clinic very concerned about her much loved companion, Jimi. Jimi is a 15 year old male cat that has been previously diagnosed with kidney disease. This means his kidneys are not functioning as well as they used to when he was younger. He is on a prescription kidney diet which is low in very high quality protein and phosphorus that helps to reduce the on-going damage to his kidneys. Jodie's main concern at this visit was that Jimi seemed to be having a problem with his back legs, possibly his hips.

Little Tabby fights off ringworm

Little Tabby had a rough start to life. She was found at five weeks of age as a stray kitten. Poor little Tabby had lost about 80% of her hair due to a ringworm infection. Ringworm is not a worm at all but actually a fungal infection. It typically affects animals with low immune systems like kittens and undernourished adults. It is also zoonotic, meaning it can be transferred to humans.

Tex's dental procedure

Tex is a 4 year old domestic short hair cat who visited us for his booster vaccinations. During a routine physical examination, Tex was noted to have inflamed gums (gingivitis) and plaque on his teeth. If left untreated, Tex's dental disease would only worsen and he would eventually develop cavities in the teeth, gingival recession, and loss of teeth. A painful situation to be in!

Tom diagnosed with pancreatitis

Tom is a 14 year old cat who was in our hospital recently. He had been off-colour, inappetant (very unusual for Tom) and reluctant to move around. Clinical examination is difficult with Tom as he is not too fond of vets. He was, however, lethargic, dehydrated and painful in his adbomen.

Unravelling Heidi's cough

Heidi is a gorgeous 8 year old Devon Rex kitty. She came to see us a few months ago as she had developed a cough. There was nothing obvious on her examination, however after a course of antibiotic treatment, her cough was no better. Heidi returned to the hospital for Dr Kylee to do some further investigation.

Ivy finds a new home

Spring time always sees an inundation of stray and unwanted kittens. At Essendon Veterinary Clinic we try our best to help local welfare agencies rehome some of these precious little bundles of joy through our Cat Adoption Centre. Recently, a little white and tabby girl came to us to be rehomed. She is a bundle of fun and energy, and was desexed and ready to find her new home.

Lucky Frankie saved by our nurses

Frankie is a very lucky three legged, deaf, white cat with no ears but a personality that makes up for it all. He had been hit by a car and was taken to a shelter where he was destined to be put to sleep before our nurse Marisa decided to foster him. Frankie is a lovely little cat who just needed some tender care and rehabilitation.

Jaffa proves that a senior check up is important

Jaffa is one of Dr Kylee's cats and is a member of Essendon Veterinary Clinic's Senior Program. Jaffa is 14 years old and apart from loving her food and being a bit overweight (a constant battle!), she has always been fairly trouble free.
